  • a bit about men and Gods!

Slash recently described Marc Eden as: "One of the greatest RNR singers I've ever heard!" Formed in 2008, Men & Gods create a swirling, carnivalesque, psychedelic heavy blues experience the band draws you in with their soulful riffs, powerful vocals and mastery of the classic roots of Rock'n' roll. Frontman and guitarist/singer Marc Eden was born in Margate on the windy south coast of England, the illegitimate son of a Greek shipping magnate and beautiful Welsh gypsy. His parents met at a public library whilst they were both searching for an out of print copy of Homer's Iliad. Marc inherited his parents love of mythology and the occult. When Eden first picked up the guitar and opened his mouth to sing out, it was all over. "I could hear Robert Johnson, I could hear Janis Joplin, I could hear all these voices telling me this is the path...the way." His main partner in crime is drummer Alrick Guyler, an Irish country boy who shares a deep love of the esoteric with Marc. Music runs deep in his Celtic blood. His perfect day was spent at Rosslyn cathedral in Scotland, jamming on strange instruments in the shadows of this Masonic temple - always with his hands on the Celtic cross though. Both multi-instrumentalists, it is Guyler who collects weird and wonderful instruments and sounds from around the world. Harmoniums, middle-eastern lutes, strange African drums all are creatively utilized to flesh out a classic rock and roll feel, melding together in the unique M&G sound. The band always endeavors to "create something beautiful, something sacred", muses Guyler . On piano is Nadia Baki, a classically trained half Arabian, half Celtic-Scottish firebrand! Eden first saw Baki belly-dancing in a seedy nightclub, working her hips and pouring drinks over the 'enthusiastic' punters, who got a little too close! In the second half of the show, she sat down and played the upright. "It was single-handedly the most gorgeous piece of piano playing I had ever heard!" M.E. Needless to say, she was asked to join M&G on the spot. "Initially, I just wanted to be close to him, Marc", says Baki. "I'd never met anyone that charismatic! For ages, I thought he'd put one of his spells on me. And then I heard the music - WOW!" This up and coming Brit-rock band are fast gaining a hard core local following and can't wait to get stateside to bring their sound to anyone who ever loved rock and roll. Try to catch this band of gypsies while you can still see the whites of their eyes, and make out the crow feathers in their hats.
